Tigers Dominate in Home Opener

The MCC men's basketball team kicked off their 2017-18 season with a dominant performance over Graceland University JV. After starting slow in the first half, the Tigers would poor it on in the second and would walk away 1-0 after defeating the Yellow Jackets 93-63. The Tigers were able to spread the ball and ended the night with four players with double digits point totals. The star of the game was Mohamed Thiam who ended the night with 19 points and 16 rebounds.

"Obviously Mo put up some big numbers tonight, I'd like to see him challenged on the glass but Mo is going to play hard all game long, we are lucky to have him," stated Head Coach Brynjar Brynjarsson. "He's going to impact this team every game if he plays like he did tonight."

Coach Brynjarsson was pleased with the performance of his team stating, "Overall I think we played well tonight, we moved the ball well and took advantage of our opportunities. I don't have any complaints about the first half other than I just don't think we played our basketball offensively but we cleaned that up in the second half."

Other top performers included Oscar Kao who scored 13 points, Eduardo Lane who scored 16 points and Berk Karadan we scored 18 points and picked up 6 rebounds.

Coach Brynjarsson high praise for his sophomore forward stating, "Berk was really solid in the second half and did a great job around the rim and that was why he was successful tonight. He did exactly what we needed him to do tonight."

The Tigers will be back in action Monday, November 6th when Iowa Central Community College makes the trip to Marshalltown for their 7:00 showdown. The game will be streamed live with links posted on MCCAthletics.com and posted on the MCC Athletics Facebook and Twitter.
