The MCC softball team traveled to Clermont, Florida to participate in THE Spring Games softball tournament over the college's spring break. The Tigers have started the season slow, dropping both games to Iowa Western Community College on Saturday, March 3. Sunday afternoon fared a little better for the Tigers as they dropped their first game against Madison College 2-5 before picking up a 4-3 victory over Cuyahoga Community College.
The Tigers went down early on, giving up a run in the first inning after Madison College's Hannah Grahl hit a double and brought in Olivia Bancroft. The Wolf Pack went off in the fourth inning scoring four runs. Chasity Jordan led the way for the Tigers, going 2-3 from the plate and recording 1 RBI. Shaena Robinson showed why she earned All-American honors a year ago, blasting a homerun over the center field fence in the sixth inning. Katelyn Cantu was in the circle for the Tigers, pitching all six innings, giving up five runs, recording six strikeouts and one error for a 1.50 ERA.
After regrouping for game two, the Tigers made some noise at the plate, recording nine hits and two doubles as a team against Cuyahoga Community College. The Tigers struck first, recording two runs in the first inning. Kylie Swan hit a double to left field early, bringing Shaena Robinson home. The Tigers struck again in the sixth and seventh innings, this time Swan would make it home after a Saydee Terrell base hit. AnnaMarie Armstrong rocked a double into right field in the seventh inning, bring in Chasity Jordan to cap off the Tigers first win of the season.
The Tigers will be back in action Monday, March 11 when they take on Illinois Valley Community College at 8:00 AM and Heartland Community College at 10:30 AM.
