The MCC softball team traveled Indianola, Iowa on Thursday afternoon to take on the Storm of Simpson College. The Tigers have had a disappointing spring with postponed and cancelled games limiting their number of games. Tuesday's game against the NJCAA's Division II number one team DMACC was cancelled due to weather but the team was able to get both games in Thursday night. The Tigers were able to defeat the storm in game one before falling in game two.
Game One: Won 5-3
The Tigers faced a tough challenge in game one, playing two scoreless innings before getting on the board in the third inning. Returning All-American Sheana Robinson blasted a home run over the left field fence to up the Tigers up 1-0. After surrendering one run in the third inning the Tigers responded by adding two runs in the fifth. The batts quieted down until the seventh inning when Shaena Robinson and Katelyn Cantu made it home to put the Tigers up 5-3. Katelyn Cantu was in the circle for the Tigers, pitching all seven innings. Cantu faced 26 batters, giving up three hits and three runs.
Game Two: Lost 3-2
The Tigers played well in game two but slipped the final inning to drop game two 3-2. After a scoreless first inning, the Tigers added a run in the second when Kylie Swan made her way around the bases with help from Kaylee Hanks and Nicolette Dabbs. Shaena Robinson hit her 14th home run in the 5th inning for the Tigers second score and put the team up 2-0. The Storm were able to get their offense going in the seventh inning, after two singles, the Storm's Sara Trent hit a three run home run to end the game and put the Storm up 3-2.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, April 13 when they host the Warriors of Indian Hills Community College. The Tigers are currently 1-3 in conference play while the Warriors are 3-1 with wins over Iowa Western Community College and Southeastern Community College. Friday's ICCAC doubleheader is set to start at 12:00 PM.
