The MCC softball team hit the road on Thursday, traveling to Council Bluffs, Iowa to take on the Reivers of Iowa Western Community College. The Tigers have played Iowa Western four times previously this season, losing all four to the Reivers. The Tigers were again unable to defeat the Reivers Thursday afternoon, falling 10-3 and 7-2.
Game One: Lost 10-3
The Tigers opened game one with a base hit by Chasity Jordan followed by a two-run homer by returning All-American Shaena Robinson. The Reivers responded in the bottom of the second with three runs to go up 3-2. After a scoreless second inning, the Tigers added one run in the third when Kaylee Hanks hit a double to right field to bring Shaena Robinson across home plate. The Tigers would be held scoreless for the rest of the game while the Reivers added two in the bottom of the third and five in the fifth to take game one 10-3. Shaena Robinson led the Tigers, going 3-4 at the plate with 1 home run and 2 RBIs.
Game Two: Lost 7-2
The Tigers would not be able to get in a groove in game two, as the Tigers were out hit 11 to 6. The Reivers scored first, plating two runs in the first inning and three in the second. The Reivers struck again in the fourth and fifth adding a single run in each inning. The Tigers, trailing 7-0, finally got on the board in the sixth inning when Anika Matsumoto batted in Katelyn Cantu. They added another run in the seventh inning from a Katelyn Cantu RBI bringing Chasity Jordan home. The Tigers were unable to catch the Reivers in the seventh and fell 7-2.
The 13-18 Tigers now drop to 1-7 in the ICCAC, with a conference doubleheader against Indian Hills Community College scheduled for Saturday, April 21. The Tigers dropped both games against the Warriors last weekend, falling 21-3 and 17-5 at home. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
