Marshalltown Community College (MCC) baseball secured a hard-fought series victory this week, taking two out of three games against Northeast Iowa Community College. The Tigers showcased an explosive offensive display in their opening win before split decisions rounded out the series.
MCC overwhelmed Northeast Iowa in the series opener with a staggering 37-2 victory. The Tigers' bats were relentless, fueled by a home run barrage from Matthew Marceau, Jack Riley, Ty Harmsen, and TJ Cook. The extra-base hits didn't stop there, as Tyler Hand hit a triple, while Cooper Fiskewold, Anderson Schirm, Brady Baker, DJ Ridout, Harmsen, and Cullen Krueger all recorded doubles. Baker joined the four-RBI club, while Hand, Krueger, and Konnor Holtorf each contributed three RBIs. Rounding out the scoring effort, Schirm, Ridout, Harmsen, and Nolan Johnson each drove in two, with Mateo Rodriguez and Cole Knewtson adding one apiece. Fiskewold also notched a sacrifice fly in the blowout.
The momentum shifted in the second contest as MCC fell 13-6 after facing Northeast Iowa's top pitcher. Early defensive struggles proved costly for the Tigers, who were plagued by errors in the opening frames. Despite the defensive miscues, the offense attempted a comeback led by Schirm, who doubled. Marceau, Rodriguez, and Harmsen also connected for doubles, while Riley recorded a triple. Marceau, Fiskewold, Riley, and Rodriguez each tallied an RBI, with Fiskewold adding his second sacrifice fly of the series, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome.
MCC found their rhythm again in the series finale, clinching the set with a decisive 12-6 win. The Tigers' disciplined approach at the plate was led by Marceau, who drove in three runs to cap off a productive series. Fiskewold and Knewtson each provided two RBIs, with Knewtson also recording the team's lone double of the game. Schirm, Hand, and Riley each added an RBI to the tally to keep the pressure on the opposition.
The Tigers will travel to Kirkwood Community College for their next game on Thursday, April 16 at 1 pm.
