MARSHALLTOWN, IA — The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team closed out their regular season with a 2-0 victory on the road, defeating Hawkeye Community College in a well-fought contest.
The Tigers earned a crucial shutout thanks to a commanding defensive effort and timely scoring. Matoi Yanagisawa got the scoring started early in the first half, finding the back of the net with an unassisted goal in the 7th minute. The score remained 1-0 heading into the break.
In the second half, the Tigers extended their lead when Haru Takizawa scored the team's second goal in the 56th minute, assisted by Kaisei Noguchi. The defense held strong throughout the game, with goalkeeper Tim Straubmueller recording 5 crucial saves to secure the shutout. The entire team put forth a great effort to keep the clean sheet, proving their readiness for the postseason.
This victory marks the end of the regular season for the Tigers. They will now advance to the Region 11 tournament where they will face Dakota County Technical College in the first round. The playoff match is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 25th, in Norfolk, NE.
