The Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team hosted Western Iowa Tech on Wednesday, ultimately falling 71-59. The Tigers faced a tough defensive challenge throughout the night, struggling to penetrate the paint and find consistent high-percentage looks near the basket. This difficulty inside proved to be a deciding factor, as the Tigers were unable to bridge the gap in a game that saw Western Iowa Tech maintain control for much of the contest.
Offensively, the Tigers were led by Tom Guma, who finished with a team-high 17 points. Tre'Von Coney also provided a spark, contributing 12 points to the effort. Guma and Coney were the only two players to reach double figures for MCC.
The Tigers will now have several days off to regroup returning to their home court for a busy start to next week. MCC is scheduled to host Kirkwood Community College on Monday, Jan. 12, at 7 pm. Following that matchup, they will be back in action at the Student Activity Center on Tuesday, Jan. 13, to host the Mount Mercy College JV team, also starting at 7 pm.
